THE GILL NET LODGE
FALL 2002
Wedding Congratulations! William and Monica, Sept 1st, Bernie & Pat, Sept 8th. Lots of birthdays this month - Mary C. Sept 3rd, Brenda & Kevin V, Carmel L. Please add.
Love Patty
Hello,
A rainy wet Sunday morning here in Manhatten. Off to a birthday party with Jennifer's daughter Katie and then back to visit my old stomping grounds in Hopatcong, NJ where my former landlord "The Doc" is having an afternoon party. The Doc's party's are Iranian in nature, right down to the music and the food. Very good times - it will also be great to visit with his many friends whom I got to know while living next door.
Yesterday, we drove to Hershey, Penn. to visit the world's biggest chocolate factory. You go through the place on one of those moving chairs (like Epcot) and the entire town has the aroma of rich milk chocolate. You smell it from the time you wake up in the morning till you go to bed. If you love chocolate, visiting Hershey is a must..:-)
Hoping to get back to Nova Scotia to retreive my truck in a few days and get back up to the cottage on the Miramichi for one last stint of flyfishing salmon. HOpefully the fall run of fish has begun!
The best of the fall season to all.
John V
To add to Aunt
Patty's list, I know of the following additional celebrations this month:
Mary & Ed
Rawlinson's 23rd (?) anniversary; Ken Kingston's Birthday on the 7th, Mom
& Dad's 42nd anniversary on the 24th; Tommy Kingston's Birthday on
the 23rd (?) and mine on the 28th. I will be 40(again) this year.
Ha!
Just 2 hours away from getting on a twin otter float plane for our annual fall fishing trip......
Happy Birthday
to Kevin and all the rest.
Cheers
Will
Well, it's September
9th and I am a packin' for Torunna and hitting the Plaster Rock Highway
tomorrow. For those not in the know, the Plaster Rock is the ultimate
freeway, modern and straight aside from many moose and a few giant potholes.
My new position starts on the 30th. Hope to find a place to live
somewhere in there within a couple of weeks and when I do, I shall unpack
and come back and visit the Gill Net Lodge. :-)
John
P.S. Thank you
in advance Tom Kingston for any Gill Net editorial work in my absence.
Well John, I'm not surprised.....
Recently you have
been pretty lax with with respect to your responsibilities to the Gill
Net Lodge.... I can remember the days when you took your responsibility
seriously - when you had a new theme each month, people tuned in.
Now, with the same photo on for months at a time, and you gallavantin'
between New York and Toronto - to say nothing about your trips to
Vancouver and Victoria, it's not that the Gill Net was "closed due to inactivity".
John, the plain and simple truth is that "you killed the Gill Net Lodge".
So, for generations of Kingstons to come, the question will always be asked,
"Whatever happened to the GillNet Lodge?". Well, we'll just have
to tell them... John F. Vickers (born 1960) killed it.
Tom, I knew I
could rely on you for a most entertaining summary! It is fitting
that when you look back to the opening page of the Gill Net in Nov of 98',
you were also the first contributor.
Well,
I am sad to see it die. Even though I did not contribute very much, I was one of the "Lurkers". I will miss lurking.
I am now teaching in Las Vegas Second Grade. The weather here is beautiful this time of year--around 80-90's in the day. I have the kids in soccer so am too busy to gamble. Terry is in Spokane trying to sell the house. He will come on the 1st of Oct. Life is pretty hectic right now.
I will miss all
the news of the Kingston Clan. Thank you to John who put this altogether!!!
SAY IT ISN'T SO.
What is the min.
required to keep the GILL NET in operation?
I'll miss hearing
from everyone and tracking what people are up to.
John, you have
done a terrifc job. Now how will I know what happens on your new
adventure in Toronto?
Thank you for
all your efforts.
Love AM
Go for it John!
I don't know you people and just stumbled across this page however looks
pretty lame to me! :-)
Now, John, in
true Miramichi spirit, you know the door is never closed....same with the
Lodge...if you can manage it, could you please continue? I think
it is an important link especially for the first cousins. Please
reconsider.
Cheers,
Brenda
John
Thanks so much for doing this (and Tommy for filling in when needed). Realize it's a tough job to carry on but would agree with others it would be something to keep this going. Sounds like you are missing some news so here goes.....
Sharon visited
my sister Carol and I while here for a conference (we had not seen each
other since Renata was born (just over 4 years ago!). Expecting Joann
Kingtson Reichers and her brother Sam to arrive next weekend on their way
to Alberta where Joanne's family is moving. I am involved in hockey
with Spencer again this year (playing in Novice - which I think is Latin
for crappy 7 am Sunday morning ice time!!) Mia and Ren start ringette
next month and Mia's in gymnastics, too. Having shoulder surgery
in the new year (dislocated my shoulder last summer and tore some ligaments
so it needs fixing). How is quite amusing but I have ranted for too
long. Life in high tech is still roller-coastering along, we will see where
this year ends up. My best wishes to all and please let me know if
there's any way I can help.
SK
John, what would
we do with out YOU, SAY IT ISN'T SO. STEPHEN, you sound like
a busy dad, keep it up, the kids will love you for it. (some day),
I have been there. Love Patty.
WHAT!!! Shutting the Gill Net down! I cannot believe it. As I have said in the past, I use viewing this site to relieve some of the stress I get at work. It allows me to get grounded, get my breathing back to normal, and ready to tackle the next step with true Kingston finesse.
Also, I find that
when we do have family gatherings here in Miramichi, we have a place to
start the conversations with people we don't see near regularly enough.
Please keep it going.....ME
John:- I am glad
you are going to continue with this great Gill Net. Thanks for all
you have done in the past and good luck as usual in the future. By
the way I check in with the Gill net at least once a day when I am at home.
Was away for about three weeks just lately.
John Vickers.
I am very happy to see the Gill Net will continue. It is our only
connection to many of our Canadian cousins and the Miramichi. George:
Where did you go for 3 weeks hope all is well with you and your family.

See, John, what
you have to do is threaten to close the lodge doors every couple of months
or so.....then we all come out of the woodwork...Uncle George, hope you
are doing okay. I understand that you haven't been feeling that great...enjoy
those beautiful fall Miramichi days if you can...they are a treat!

eh Tom, where
did you find the old cbc off air photo from up above? Looks cool.
Nice day here in Minneapolis although it was plus 2 this am. You
are right Brenda, I'll just have to threaten closure occassionally...:-)
Hi,
My maiden name is Kingston and I found your website while researching genealogy on my family. One thing that I've found is that every Kingston family seems to be made up primarily of Johns, Pauls, Thomas', Marys, Ellens and Elizabeths. My family is no different (we have no less than 28 in the six generations I've traced) and this makes it very difficult to make definite connections to other peoples research. My family, since immigrating from Ireland in the early 1800's, has been in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, USA. I'm trying to find some info prior to my earliest known ancestor, Paul Kingston, born 1764 in Ireland. I see from your site that Samuel Kingston, born 1760 in Ireland has a son Paul who immigrated to to N.B. in early 1800's. Do you know anything about Samuel's siblings? Could his son been named for a brother who traveled with Samuel and headed south to the US when Samuel headed north? I wouldn't ask, knowing a question like this is a very long shot, but while looking at your pictures of your 2000 family reunion, I found a picture of an older man, wearing a straw hat and holding a baby. This man could be the twin of my grandfather! I'd be very interested in any info you have on your Samuel prior to his arrival in N.B.

Hi Linda,
Your are in luck!
The man in the straw hat is George Kingston and he is our family's geneological
expert. Uncle George, I am curious if there is a connection as well,
so when you rely could you copy in the Gill Net? All the best.
p.s. To my "little"
brother Mark... Just remember, I am staying 40 this year (and for the next
few to follow), so you are now officially catching up to me.
Enjoyed your website very much!!!
These are a few
pictures of Kingston's at a family reunion in Huntington, PA about 6 years
ago.
These are descendant
of John L. Kingston Born Johnstown, PA about 1877
John Paul Kingston
Born Johnstown, PA 1908
John Patrick
Kingston Born Johnstown, PA 1937
The picture with the guys in the Tux's are John Patrick, Richard Kingston and Kyle Kingston.
We are in the process of trying to locate other Kingston's. We have found census dating back to 1850. The first to come to US from Ireland are John, Paul and Richard.
The peculiar thing is that living right now are John, Paul and Richard. Also going through you pictures we noticed a Mary Ellen Kingston - well Grandma was Mary Ellen Kingston.
I know that our niece Linda Parulis is looking for Kingston's as well. You may have heard from her.
Again thanks for
that website we enjoyed the family Kingston to the North!!
Dorothy Kingston
wife of John P. Kingston born in Johnstown, PA, moved to Chicago, IL in
1956 and now residing in Mesa, AZ.
While we were living in Chicago we came across several John Kingston's.
I could babble all day........thank you so very much.
