Thanks John, great picture, great way to start the New Year/ Could we see more family's pictures on the Gill Net? This is a challenge. Patty.
Hi
everyone,
I forgot to mention before Christmas, but, if anyone has picked up
Sobey's 2003 Chritmas CD's, Rebeka is singing on song 15 of CD #2.
Hello
again,
Finally
on the mend from a knock down, drag em' out, cold and flue.
Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy! I will get a flue shot next
time and after this round, I think I mean it this time.
Dead month at the Gill Net Lodge - must be the cold most of you
easterner's are enjoying. 12 above in Victoria yesterday and the
"counting of the tulips" festival is only about five weeks away -
another sign that spring is slowly getting within arms reach.
Today was a terrific NFL Sunday. The big dance known as the SUPERBOWL
is two weeks away.
Anyhow out there wanting to escape the cold weather - I have a pop-up
tent here in the yard you can use at night if you are out this way! :-)

Hi: It has indeed been a dead month on
the Gill Net Lodge. We have been having not bad weather here in
Edmonton. (Our usual weather is down visiting the Maritimes!)
I had an exciting day
yesterday. I met Jason Smith at a children's birthday party
yesterday that Jason's daughter and Monika and Benjamin were
attending. I apologized for having to ask him his name even
though I read the sports page to Benjamin every morning. (My excuse is
that I don't think he shaved since getting injured!) Benjamin
just stared at him. It was cool! I called Pat right away to
tell him. I said that Benjamin was even wearing his Oilers'
jersey. Pat said that I should have asked JS to sign the jersey.
I sure that Miss Manners would have approved of asking an injured guy
to sign a jersey when his out with his daughter on a Sunday afternoon.
So, this encounter out does my walk past the just fired head coach of
the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (I can't remember his name, just that he rode
a Harley and left his wife and child) in a Safeway store in 1999.
But, even more exciting
than meeting JS was that after the birthday party, Benjamin and Monika
had a hockey game. Monika had her eye on the puck the whole game,
shot the puck 24 times and had a break away! I was so
proud. I ran around to the players box after her first shift to
tell her she was doing a great job. She had already hit the puck
4 times! Can you tell that she and I have been talking about her
not continuing in hockey next year and that I really want her to
reconsider??? Benjamin played well too, but there is no fear of
him wanting to give it up.
Pat gets home tonight after
being away for 15 days. As always, it will be a relief to share
some parenting responsibilities and the wrestling of a 65 pound 5 year
old and his 40 pound side kick. Take care, JoAnn

Hi All
It's
too quiet on the Gill Net or I am lurking for news too much.
Freakishly cold in Ottawa, today provides a brief respite but we start
to dive back down into -20s and 30s C with wind chill.
All is well in our house. Adam turns 5 months on Jan 30 andis
becoming much more interactive and playful and has already started
cereal (filling in his 3rd chin nicely!) Mia and Spencer continue to
travel the Ottawa Valley for ringette and hockey and I can definitely
side with JoAnn's statements on the thrills of watching your kids in
sports. Renata took a break this year from ringette and is in
gymnastics and skating lessons. Giulia is busy with Adam and has
dove headlong into her flegling ringette career (found some other moms
who play during the week. As for myself, started the year with
some sciatic nerve issues (for the layman, a sore ass!) but this has
improved where I am back spinning and running (when it's fit to run
outside). Work is rolling along - was out in San Fran for a week which
was a nice respite from the frozen tundra.
Hoping
to get away for March Break but no plans solidified yet. Anyone
with some tips on good spots in Florida would be appreciated.
Steve
Hello
all,
I think we broke the record for the less news. The cold has slowed us down a bit. Brendan and I will be grandparents twice this month of February. That is great news, Love Aunt Patty.

Hi!
We are getting married at his cottage
on August 7 of this year. I wanted something nice and small (in
my dreams) but unfortunately, Dave is from a family of 6
too! With 12 nieces and nephews.......so, the grand total of the
"immediate family" comes to 50 people!!!! Crazy.
He will definitely be coming to the
reunion - along with his 7 year old daughter (he's divorced).
I've told him all about the great tubing down the river and he can't
wait. I forgot to tell him that my relatives are very
nosey..........thanks for reminding me!!!!! I'll start preparing
him now for summer 2005! :)
Bye!

Hello
All,
Just had a great weekend with Mr. Tom Kingston visiting along with John
and Heather and their girls from Edmonton. We enjoyed a few great
visits to the pool hall, a great brunch in Chinatown and the "odd" cold
one. Great to see some Kingston heritage in these parts.
Spring is coming, lots of flowers in bloom on the grounds outside my
condo.

It certainly is NOT spring like here. The thermometer in my truck read -20 today and I think it is -25 with the wind chill. I hate winter :)

John,
I am trying to feel some sympathy for you, but the -20 below weather
has numbed all feeling from my body. If there were any robins
with a 100 miles of us they would be popsciles. I hate winter :)

Well, not to be outdone by John Vickers
who lives in more tropical climes and to give Mary Ellen some hope on
the frigid Miramichi, on Feb. 10 a robin stopped for awhile in a huge
birch tree we have in our backyard. He/She is ready to begin
looking for worms....robins don't go south, I think...they just sort of
go to where they can get a bite, like Victoria. Happy Valentine's
Day everyone!
Love,
Brenda

SPORTS
FLASH! Bragging Rights, eh?? If anyone is in Quebec City
today, be sure to go to La Colisee to see Paula- Marie's boy, Shawn,
who is playing for the Gold medal in Peewee International hockey.
It is the largest hockey tournament in the world involving 100 teams
from 16 different conntries. His team has been undefeated so far
and if they win today will get the GOLD. PM say the least they
can win today is the silver but listening to PM last night, she is
ready for anything. It has been a great experience for them - one
that will last a lifetime, according to Scott. This 10 day event
has really been a terrific time - they were very well received and
entertained throughout the full time there. They get home at 2
a.m Monday morning. Will post the results as soon as PM calls us
today. Al

How
about that hockey game - they won, they are world Champions!! In
the gold
medal game, they defeated U.S 4-1. This is a first for N.B. in 45
years!
Great for N.B. and Wonderful for the Kingston's bragging rights!
Hurrah!!!!
Early
St. Paddy's jig!
I'm
impressed! So what position does Shaun play and old are pee wees?
Did the team come from all over New Brunswick or just from the Moncton
area? Congratulations to the parents, proud grandparents and
aunts and uncles!

Shawn is on the Dieppe Peewee AAA Voyageurs Hockey team. They

played in front of 12,000 specators. He plays
