Pumpkin Artist John Vickers is well known to many
for his
phenomenal Government House pumpkin display in support of UNICEF.
In 2004, over
24,000 people attended the Pumpkin Art celebration
on Rockland Road viewing over 300
illuminated carvings featuring such notables as
Harry Potter to Queen Elizabeth. Vickers
carvings have been previously presented at the Royal
Ontario Museum in Toronto as part of a
fundraiser for UNICEF Canada.
Earlier this
year Vickers began an effort to create another "not-to-miss" UNICEF
event for
the city
of Victoria. The result is the launch of the first inaugral
Victoria Masquerade Ball.
.
"Once
we had the support of the Victoria Symphony and the Delta Ocean Pointe
Resort, I new
this had all the makings of being a really fantastic event!", says
Vickers adding, "So many people
tell me that at one time or another they have envisioned attending a
masquerade ball and this
will be without question, the black tie event of the
year!".
UNICEF proceeds are
being directed to assist children affected by the African Aids
Crisis.
