The following email from received from George and Stephanie and feedback is welcomed:
There are a
great many things to do, as listed below AND as well as those not listed
between the lines, or not included at this time. We are open to any
and all suggestions and please do not be shy.
We feel sure
we have not included everything, other persons living remote from the Miramichi
and Miramichiers themselves, would have activities over and above these
they would like to have included.
We believe it is time to get all the final suggestions in and nailed down by mid June. We need to get down to the nitty gritty and determine exactly what we are going to do, who is going to do it and when are they going to do it. To have a happy and fun week, we have taken the liberty of suggesting activities and attaching names of people to those activities who could possibly help make this reunion a momentious event in all our lives especially for the 2nd and 3rd Generation descendants of Samuel and Lillian. Some of these activities were discussed at meetings of the local Miramichi committee.
Everyone attending will be scheduled to carry out at least one activity and in many cases multiple activities. If you are listed below for some activity and find it absolutely impossible to carry out, then would you please get agreement from some other person to do that activity, and let the local Miramichi committee know of the change of responsibility.
We are as close as, preferred, email through the 2000 web site. Recording any change via email provides a record and things will not fall through the cracks.
Monday July 31- Samples of river water are to be tested for bacteria, well in advance, to determine if it can be used in a untreated or not boiled state to wash dishes and if it is safe for swimming, tubing etc. Persons attending the reunion are to be cautioned to not drink the water directly from the river. Bottled water complete with an electric cooler will be provided for drinking water. Tubing, swimming, fishing and other aquatic activities have taken place for years without incident, and no problems are expected with the river water. Testing will be carried out in advance of the reunion dates as a precaution. Responsible George Kingston
The Site is to be vacated, with it, in as good or better condition than found. No trenching around tents or trenching or disfigurement of the site its trees or any object native to the site for any purpose is allowed. Stakes driven into the ground for tents games etc are to be minimum in size, and be removed with due care to cause the least damage, any damage caused by these stakes are to be repaired by the person who caused them.
A crew of pre-teenagers are to be set up who will be in the charge of a mature person for the purpose to tour the site on an organized basis at least once per day and pick up any foreign objects i.e. garbage, garbage bags are required and will be provided. Responsibility Joseph Kingston to pick every pre-teenager and instruct them in how this job is to be carried out each day.

Thursday August
3 Arrange for delivery and set up of large 20 foot X 60 foot or 30 foot
X 60 foot tent on this day. Arrangements to be made well in advance.
Rental cost of small tent estimated at $550.00 per day, Rental cost of
large tent $1100.00 per day. If the weather forecast is such that
there is only a slight chance of rain then this tent is not required.
However everyone should come prepared for rain and have a plan to take
shelter, The Lodge is off limits and it and its facilities are not
to be used. The rental charge of $550 or $ 1100. Per day includes
setting up and taking down the tent.
There is no
doubt that preparations have to be made in case of rain.
It is suggested
that a shelter of 2 by 4’s 8 feet long combined with plywood for
gussets be made into trusses and covered with 6 mil polyethelyne could
be partly prefabbed before the reunion dates and set up on the July 31
Monday or Aug 1 Tuesday for the following estimated cost. NOTE Estimated
60 pcs- 2”
x4” x 8 ft lumber @ $2.50 ea = $ 150.00
2 sheets of
¼ construction grade plywood @ 18.00 per sheet = $36.00
10 lbs 2”
common wire nails @ 1.00 per lb = $10.00
Have plywood
cut into aprox 1’- 0” X 1’- 0”pieces 40 pcs req = $ 10.00
Ridge pole
1 ½” X 1” 8’- 0’ 4 pcs @ $ 2.00 ea = $8,00
1 roll 10’
wide X 150’ long 6mil polyethelyne $38.95
Total above $252.95
Contengencies
Rope etc 20%
50.00
Estimated
total cost
$302.95
There is a
possibility that the lumber dealer would prefab these trusses and deliver
them to site for say $100.00
A saving of 5 x $550.00 = $2750.00 – 402.95 or $2347.05 (Say we even save $2000.00)
Another idea
is to purchase canvas gazebos which are 10 feet by 10 feet or 12 feet by
12 feet completely screened in at aprox $ 80.00 ea tax included.
Six of these would cost $240.00. They could be raffled off or sold to those
attending the reunion on the final night to recover some of their origional
cost.
We should
be able to come up with something rather than a large cost for a large
tent. Also the gazebos would look a lot nicer, we could even get different
colors and sizes. Responsibility Ed and Mary Rawlingson
Ray to arrange
to have delivered at no cost this day 15 picnic tables.
Friday August 4- Monica Vickers, Carmel Leslie and Bernadette Sullivan in charge of Registration at 1:00 pm on. Barbara Leslie to be the treasuer and part of the registration team. Scribbler of some kind is required for record keeping. Are nametags required, if so should they be color coded as per family.
To cover some
of the costs each adult ( 21 and over) will be requested to pay $20.00
and each person 20 and under will be requested to pay $5.00 at registration.

Previous Update Below
The Kingston 2000 site is reserved from Friday, July 28 to Tuesday, August 8, 2000. This will give anyone access for two full weekends and the week in between. However, the main activities of the reunion will take place from Friday, August 4 to Monday, August 7. If you have a limited amount of time to spend on the Miramichi, this last weekend would be the best one to hit.
The site is a forested twelve acre lot with a large cleared field, sufficient to house many travel trailers, motor homes, tents, etc. The site borders a tributary of the Northwest Miramichi River. The section of the river that borders the site has a medium current and smooth rocky bottom, with most sections under 2-3 feet in depth. The river is used extensively for fishing, canoeing, and, particularly at this time of year, for tubing. There are a variety of forested trails and rarely used woods roads nearby, which would be appropriate for walking, hiking or biking.
At
this point in our planning, we are asking that everyone planning to stay
at the site prepare to supply themselves and be as self-sufficient as they
would during a week of camping in the rough. Although there are currently
three permanent buildings and a barbeque pit on the site, they will be
inadequate to service everyone. We are making plans to provide adequate
outdoor outhouse facilities for those who require them and during the next
few months, we will be addressing other basic needs as well as any requirements
that might result from the planning of activities. We will let you
know of any other such arrangements as they are made.
