     Door-to-Door Canvassing

                With the dawn of "free hook-ups" or "nearly free" base installations with monitoring
                commitments, canvassing initiatives are becoming another effective tool in security system
                sales.  Here is a sampling of canvas approaches and how they are implemented.
Hi!  I am Mike with ACME Alarms.  We are offering a special promotion whereby just by allowing us to display this lawn sign on your front yard and our stickers, we can offer you a free security system with a value in excess of $500.  All you simply do is allow us to provide you with your first 36 months of 24-hour monitoring at only $29.95 monthly.  You also can take advantage of lower home insurance premiums!
Hi!  I am Mike with ACME Alarms.  We are doing some installations in the neighborhood and for a limited time are offering to install a security system in your home at no cost.   All you have to be is allow us to provide you with 36 months of 24-hour monitoring at only $29.95 monthly which can also lower your home insurance premiums.

Remember!  Canvassers should be extremely presentable.  Nice golf shirts sporting company logo's, jackets, even logos on umbrella's!  Your van should be painted in top notch fashion.  Use a large colour certificate at the door outlining the special promotion, equipment package, monitoring commitment and a place for the customer and the field representative to sign.

The key to canvassing is that there is no reference of really selling anything.  Packages are simply being given away and all they have to do is pay for their monitoring.  In the interest of promoting the proper protection for a family, it's important to indicate the technician upon installation of the base system will discuss further security options should they wish to explore those options.  When the sale is signed for, canvassers should also provide a nice folder to the customer containing their copy of the sales agreement, the signed certificate, some company information and even a home security tips sheet.  Building more trust will reduce cancellations.

What's left in the canvassers possession is their copy of the sales agreement, a voided check, and a technical installation sheet.  The tech sheet can be very simple at this point as it only contains a base package.  (ie..type of home, whether they have pets, points covered, etc.)
