Hey,
it takes talking about the weather to get us going....thanks, Anne
Marie!! Beautiful day here in Nova Scotia and supposed to be even
better tomorrow...but, really, our summer really sort of spurted and
fizzled over and over again....it's rather depressing to think that
within another couple of weeks it is over for another year.
However, our autumns tend to be beautiful and I don't have a problem
with cold, sunny days in winter.
Hope this finds everyone well! Where are you, Aunt Patty?
You normally greet everyone on the first of the month. I hope
everything is okay with you.
John, thanks for keeping us connected (and you, too, Tom). Our
lives may get too busy at times (at least, we can use that as an excuse
and get away with it) to send out greetings but we really do appreciate
the medium for doing it.
Anne Marie, what is it like to live in that province which has that
incredible surplus and people are still living on welfare in parts!?

Brenda,
Social Justice seems not to be a Priority for the wealthy premier and
the MLA's. MLA receive about $100 a day for expenses and provide
$320 a month to a single person on welfare who may have mental health
issues but can not stay in the hospital because of funding cuts.
Childrens Services who I work for has asked us to cut back on services
because we have a cost overun of about $1,000,000. It appears a
29 billion dollar surplus can not provide us with the
money. Sometimes, I can not believe I live here.

Thursday, September 9th.
A rough evening at the Vickers residence on the Miramichi...Dad was
admitted to hospital with his heart issues while mother fell at home
later in the evening and badly fractured her arm/shoulder.
Hopefully all are on the mend. John

Hello, hello. John did you get to N.B.?
Patty
Hi Patty, didn't get there,
too swamped with work. Hoping to get home for a break around
Thanksgiving. I hear Uncle George and Stephanie are visiting out
this way towards the end of the month.
Kingston I understand is arriving tomorrow on the Miramichi for a
week. Hope all is great with your crowd. Dad is back home
from the hospital while mother is sporting a cast. John

Hey John.....Do you have any pumpkins carved yet?
Eh Will, I try to do 100 each
year - including the polyruthane ones, I should present about 315
around Government House grounds this fall. I have them in related
groups (this year includes the 60's, the Lord of the Rings, Charlie
Brown & Company, etc.) I now snap them as I carve them in any
order and some of the latest are here.

Incredible, John...do you mess up many
and have to
start again or is
there lots of room for forgiveness? So, you may start something
which
turns into something else because you made a mistake?
Do you need a physiotherapist by the time Hallowe'en rolls
around? Good
luck and I am sure Government House will have lots of Hallowe'en magic
and children (and adults) will be delighted.
Cheers,
Brenda
Thank you Brenda. One of
the benefits of carving polyurethane is that you can take your time and
start plenty early...;-) Yes indeed , there have been times where
a particular carving became something else as the original just wasn't
working out. They are expecting up to 20,000 people this
year to come and see the pumpkins. It kind of puts the
expectations in place that you had better keep carving!
;-) UNICEF is happy as ever with all the exposure which
makes it all worth while. John
Heeeeere we go again..:-)

Hello, very quite on the net, my excuse was we were
with out a computer for three weeks and you really do miss it. We
got a Dell, they are very nice. Having Robert and family here for
thanksgiving dinner got us back in business. Great weather and
great health Love Patty.
Will sent me this.....winter is creeping into Yellowknife...John
Hi, John Bernie is having
trouble, getting past the month of June for
Kingston web site. Can you help? A Happy Birthday to
Frankie Oct. 19th. Love Patty.
HI Patty, if she goes to
http://www.gillnetlodge.com and hits her "refresh" button it should
work. Other than that, Tom K might offer the right
solution. I did note on the past months section, I hadn't pasted
the summer notes and they are now in their proper place.
Up to me knees in rain and mud today at Government House setting up the
pumpkins. As per past messages on "review", I am not sure what
you mean on that one and feel free to let me know. The current
guestbook keeps an inside page which also compiles the notes however as
I cannot edit this, I re-paste it out here. John
The Happy Northern Fisherman (I am envious)
Oct 23rd. A story
about the pumpkins in the paper here and the link is
here.
John
A final pumpkin note. We
had over 24,000 visitors to Pumpkin Art this year, double from last
year. Government House took some events pics and I post
them below..John

John,
Congrats on another successful showing - does your Dad know about the
stolen milk crates from the co-op?!
Busy in Ottawa - spending a lot of times at rinks watching the oldest 3
play/practice or keeping Adam entertained. All are doing well in
school for a change which is a good thing.
Will be interesting to see what goes on south of the border - I have
been increasingly amazed at the rhetorical level to which the election
process has become in North America, it's very hard to find tangible
things to focus on or believe in (especially wrt domestic
policy). Anyway, getting rid of Bush is my vote. Go read
http://www.matthewgood.org/web/mblog/index.php for some
interesting articles on the world we live in.
Hope all are well and getting ready for winter. All the fall
foliage in Ottawa is pretty much down for the count and awaiting snow
cover. And only 52 days until Christmas (like anyone needed to
read that on Nov 2nd)
4 more of years of BUSH.
Hard to take. Steve, I used over 300 milk crates from
Island Farms (the local dairy) who inform me if my display gets any
larger, I will affect the milk case supply of Greater Victoria!
Cheers, John

I am so disappointed about the election! I still can't believe
it. It is so heartbreaking! I am so scared for the next 4
years-- The war, The Supreme court, Roe V Wade, the economy, the debt,
social concerns , education etc. The list goes on! I believe we
are being overtaken by the Neo-Conservatives and the religious right!
Couldn't resist this one...JV

Tom also visited the pumpkin
patch in Victoria this year and sent this link with his pics which are
cool. (It is best to hit right click link once and hit "save
target as" and then open.)
