UNLIMITED RESPONSE

REDUCING FALSE POLICE DISPATCHES THROUGH COOPERATIVE MEANS

In order to understand this unique perspective, based on that wonderful phrase - Help others get what they want, so you get what you want - some simple arithmetic is in order.

A review of false alarm rates in three major North American cities shows the rate hovering between 30 to 40 false alarms per thousand on-line clients per month. Using the higher average as an example, if you were to dispatch a private security response company to 40 alarm calls and were charged $30.00 per dispatch - a monthly invoice of $1200.00 would result.

However, if one thousand 24-hour monitored clients were paying you as little as two dollars more a month for response services, your resulting $2000 in gross income would cover the $1200!

24-hour monitoring with unlimited response is now selling in some centers for $37.00 monthly. It is an attractive opportunity - for every three clients wishing to sign up to unlimited response, you would in effect be creating a new residential monitoring residual.

Does it mean having to get into the guard response business?  In most major centers, the private response industry is increasingly competitive and if you were to select and then offer a specific company your response calls, your cost per response can be quite reasonable.

Many alarm dealers are rightfully concerned about the type and quality of service a private responder can provide. Our suggestion is, as in any industry, you will have companies who offer great services for great value and others who don't. It naturally pays to do your homework in evaluating a private response organization.

Increasingly, partnering opportunities between alarm dealers and responders are being recognized as win-win situations. The president of a large alarm association was recently quoted as saying "You show me an alarm dealer who has no interest in the private response industry and I'll show you an alarm dealer who is missing out on the partnering opportunity of the future!"

One of the great benefits of Security Solution's unlimited response program is that it not only provides a great service to your customers  - you are spear heading a public service! Through the use of the cooperative financial efforts of all clients, individual clients receive efficient, unlimited response services.  One alarm company client told us, they inform customers their responders are just as quick as the pizza man however he doesn't have to wait the time for the pizza to cook!

Soothsayers will argue about on-line abusers who may flagrantly cause to many false alarms and may possibly "sink the ship". We would encourage a simple clause on the sales agreement/monitoring contract which gives only you the right to cancel the agreement on 30 days notice.

Realizing this is a new revenue generating service, also realize a portion of public moneys is actually paying for the program and you as manager of the bank account want to deliver great service for great value.

As it affects the bottom line of the alarm industry and not the taxpayer, this program also puts the onus on participating alarm companies to be really pro-active in reducing false alarm dispatches. There is nothing like corporate attention when increased profits can result!

For years, the alarm industry has argued its case that most alarms don't have false alarms. This program is a testament to that fact as it is only because most alarm systems don't have false alarms that it is able to work in the first place.

Cost recovery programs enacted in some North American centers may ease the burden of the taxpayer, but in many cases will do little to assist police officers or the public. The question is what about the interests of our customers - the ones who are actually buying our monthly protection?

Do we simply turn our other cheek when we see longer and longer police response times in our major urban centers as installations really start to flourish? How many paying monthly residential customers are there in North America's large cities who, after activating an intrusion response on their security system, would truly receive an "acceptable" police response time?

Private response should be embraced under the "Unlimited Response" banner as a win, win, win. The customer wins with efficient cost effective response, the police win with better usage of their increasingly limited resources and we in the alarm industry win by earning more revenue through enhanced services.
