Yus would be happy to know, that when I tended school in the green country, I was in one class where my fellow classmates also bore the name MacCloughry and yes, as did even the teacher.  I'd prefer to think the name Kingston was spun off of MacCloughry rather than the other way round - them Scots are typically up to something.  We hopin yus all have one hell of a reunion by the way.

Now I am wondering exactly who you are Jimmy. Your email incon denotes a capital letter - not acceptable on the world wide web for email communication. Thus your camoflauge is uncovered. Yet, your Irish heritage seems quite recent. A mystery lad.

John,

Putting my statement analysis skills together, my guess Jimmy is Brendon KELLY, Patty's husband. There is true raw emotion behind the first message sentence regarding land being confiscated in Ireland to pay off Cromwell's soldiers. You however, have the luxury in seeing the electronic trail which may lead you to New Brunswick.

Howdy folks,

Glad to see Brendan and "Jimmy" on board.  I suspect that Jimmy is either Uncle George or our long lost Tommy.  There is just too much information there for it to be anyone outside of the G. Kingston branch.

Speaking of the G. Kingston's, any word on Patricia? Her due date is tomorrow.  I think about her often and wonder how she is managing.  The last few weeks of pregnancy are the pits, but it is amazing how fast one recovers.  Hang in there Patricia!

Does anyone have any plans for "spring break"?  I am putting it in quotation marks because we are expecting a winter storm tonight.  I guess the Vickers are heading to Florida (lucky dogs!).  Anyone else doing anything exotic?

Due to the storm, our break plans will probably be cancelled. We had planned to take the girls to Moncton tomorrow night for the weekend and spend a day at Crystal Palace and the other by the pool. I could really use a break. I find everyone is so stressed at this time of the year -- myself included. Does anyone have a quick tip on relieving stress when you don't have time to really do anything?

Oh well, only 18 more days until spring. Yeah!!! Take Care all....ME

Hello,

Decided that Kingston and Will were going to have too much fun and flew down here to Florida yesterday. (Will arrives tomorrow however he had phoned to say he was coming two days early, however when they came to pick him up it was me and not him..:) (We are sly aren't we??) Needless to say the folks seem pretty pleased. Dad (expecting Will) stood there and squinted with this strange expression - you don't look like Will!) My flight arrived at 4:15 am instead of 11 pm thanks to those wonderful lightening storms which love to wonder through the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Leave it to my Mother to have a ham dinner waiting. (I saved you a few morsels Will.. I think I did..:)

Went and bought 12 beer for the fridge this afternoon - on special for $3.95. God bless America!

John,

Sounds as if your surprise was a success. The beer price you mentioned was unbelievable. However, last year I had occasion to meet my cousin Mark WIESLER in Chapel Hill NC. He had made his own beer from a beer kit he received from his little sister Suzanne. I was so impressed that I have gone out and purchased my own kit. I am now producing beer at 5 cases per 11.50 Canadian $. It is not as good as Mark's beer, at leat as how I remember it, but man it will bring a smile to your face. I am tempted to mass produce for the reunion. However, Kingstons are Scotch drinkers and not beer drinkers. From reading Brendan's message, I guess we are really mongrels. Pulled between Scotch and beer. Or as they say Champagne taste with a beer budget. During my trip to Scotland, I was not far from grandmother Lillian's home. A local distillary called Locknagar produces a Scotch called Royal Locknagar. I purchased a few bottles. On the box is written:

" ah ! there my young footsteps
in infancy wander'd
My cap was the bonnet,
my cloak was the plaid;
On chieftains long pershish'd
my memory ponder'd
As daily I strode
through the pine-cover'd glade,
I sought not my home
till the day's dying glory
Gave place to the rays
of the bright polar star;
For fancy was cheer'd
by traditional story,
Disclosed by the natives
of dark Lock na Garr

Years have roll'd on, Lock na Garr,
since I left you,
Years must elaspe
ere I tread you again;
Nature of verdure and flow'rs
has bereft you
Yet still are your dearer
the Albion's plain.
England, thy beauties are tame
and domestic
To one who has roved
o'er the mountains afar:
Ph for the crags
that are wild and majestic!
The steep frowning glories
of dark Lock na Garr.

Now if I could just sip this stuff this summer over a camp fire while my cousin the wood carver, George Wiessler, recites same.

Me again..

We calculated this evening my mother walked about seven miles today.."not bad for a lady who is 72" she says. And this ain't no stroll...she walks really fast. People she passes often comment they can't get over how fast she walks. We had a giant turkey this evening - I can't believe my food consumption is already showing across my waistline. I just can't seem to stop eating...foooood is everywhere. Last time I left here I couldn't tie my top botton on my shirt when I went back to work and had to get by squeezing my tie into my neck so it wouldn't show...looks like a repeat performance. Kingston leaves us in the morning to fly up to Philly to visit the new love in his life..says he will try to get back prior to the end of the week.

Vacations (in hot or cold climes) are so amazing. You forget how much you need one until you get away from it all for even a few days. Certainly feeling rested and still six days to go...:)

Mother has been updating me on some of the travellors for the reunion. Certainly sounds like everyone is going to be there..

Brenda, we you impressed with your south paw's responses? Sounds like there are lots around.

How is Barry doing in Toronto Patty?  I was happy to hear that things are working out for him there. Everyone in the west now says Ontario is the big job engine again.  (Everyone except Albertans that is.)

Out fishing on the dock tonight however not much on my line.  Dad says he landed a perch that weighed so much he couldn't bring it in...I am still awaiting signs for such fish to be around. People use live shrimp down here for bait..you keep them in an enclosed bucket with holes in it so that the water runs through...Something about picking one up, ripping it in half and sliding it on your hook that seems abit more painful that a plain old Miramichi earthworm.

John, Jack and I went on some excellent off-shore fishing charters in Florida and caught massive amounts of snapper and triggerfish.  We used cigar minnows for bait.  If you decide to try this, I hope you have a sound stomach...we were just fine but some of the other people on the charter were blowing chunks all over the place! :-O

Well, the miraculous warm weather has had a downside.  We had a tornado touch down in Milwaukee last night! Luckily there were only some minor injuries and no one was killed.  This happened on the south side...a long way from us (thank god).  Tornados hardly EVER hit Milwaukee...there's something about the atmospheric conditions Lake Michigan creates that wards them off. It's supposed to be in the 30's by afternoon. :-( The party's over!

Off with Will and Dad to see the Toronto Blue Jays this afternoon in Dunedin. Should be fun!

Sounds to me that Jimmy is fussy about grammar - my thought is maybe Brenda from her newspaper background could be responsible for those entries?? (How about it Brenda?..:)

So, it has been one week already since I arrived in the sunny south - time sure flys. Not to much on tap for today - Will and I are debating about going to see the Tampa Bay Lighting and the Florida Pathers duke it out at the Ice Palace this evening in St. Pete's (Tampa's rink).

My mother tells me I eat to fast. I was informing her that when I was a little kid, I was always amazed at how fast my father ate and for years and years, when I sat at the supper table, my mission was to see if I could gobble my dinner down before he could.  It was like Olympic training that I had praticed and praticed.  Now I have to relearn (at 40) the art of chewing food very, very slowly....pausing occassionally and then setting my utinsles down, then slowly bringing a napkin to my mouth just in case of any signs of excess, talking about something of communal interest, something engaging, then picking up say a fork, and slowly move forward with the rest of my meal. It's quite an art form however I remain confident I can get it down.  We are indeed an evolutionary species.

John, you'l be giving Emily Post a run for her money in short order! Remember also, that you should always leave a small amount of each item on your plate remaining. This implies you are really not very interested in your food, can more or less take it or leave it and your intellect is preoccupied with much loftier fodder than the eating of meer food. It's also in very good taste to move your food around on your plate with your cutlery in a very disinterested way rather than eating it. Food is very boring and the compsution of it is rather banal and for the dogs, really.

Message from Monica Vickers at Florida:

Hello Again,

Remember the sabath day and keep it holy was one of the readings at mass today. It took me back to memories of childhood - the minute you woke up you knew it was a Sunday. The house, the world as we knew it, took on a different flavour. This was a day of rest from labour for the adults. Cooking for the weekend completed, baths taken, hair shampooed, shoes polished, etc. on Saturday. Saturday was a rush, rush day - but Sunday was a day of rest. You could smell it in the air and feel it in every pore of your skin. This was a special day - the aroma of coffee would fill the house (we had tea on other mornings) sausages and eggs (other days we had beans and porridge). Mother's home made bread, toasted on top of the wood stove, would be well toasted on both sides but soft within.

This would be followed by a noon meal of roastbeef with all the trimmings, pies, rolls, cookies and cake. After dinner, someone(an envied person as it was their turn) would make fudge - after the potato pot was clean. Oh, the aroma!

No work was done on Sunday. No knitting, sewing, etc. was allowed.

But there was always the outdoors. Tracking animal prints in the snow, sliding, skating, etc. in winter. In summer, "swimming" down at what we called the Big Brook -there would seem to be a sense of great peace.

God was in his heaven and all was right with the world. This was his day. He was good.

God Bless,

Monica

Hi Aunt Monica et al:

I could not let your e-mail go by without commenting....how Sundays have changed! We have a parish priest who is originally from Bouctouche and is pre Vatican II. I am not very happy with
the man and in fact there is a petition circulating in the community to get rid of him.  I did not instigate it nor did I sign it but I would dearly love to see him go.  However, who replaces may be worse.

Anyhow, last Sunday he preached about the wonderful Sundays when he was growing up and his mothers and sisters got rid of all the men in the house (they probably went to the tavern, had a few beers, shared a bottle, whatever)  and scrubbed, polished, cleaned, baked in preparation for Sunday. Then on Sunday everybody rested. I wonder who made the meals on Sunday, who looked after the wee ones when they needed tending to, etc. etc....the Catholic church is so patriarchal and still today, is very reluctant to let women assume a leading role. When you reminisced about Sundays I couldn't help but think that life did go on and women bore the workload associated with that.

Hey, Monica, wish you were here! We could talk about this and many other things.

Love,
Brenda

Hello All

Aunt Monica I as well loved your story. My early memories of Sunday mornings were various brothers and sisters acquainting their elbows with my ribs so I would look straight ahead.  Later memories were of Dad blasting me out of bed with Glen Miller or Guy Lombardo on his stereo (which would not have been my first choice but it did get me up to go).  Funnily enough, that roast beef dinner found its way into our house as well as did dunks in the river or sliding or skating on the beaver pond. And Mom's lemon meringue pie ... drool.... somethings no matter how hard you try or search you can never replace.

Over the last few months Spencer and I start Sunday morning by going to 8:30 mass and then heading to the gym (he for swim lessons, I for some overall better physical condition as I want to start doing some 10 k runs this summer). On the spiritual side, he knows his Our Father and sports no bruising in his rib cage (as long as he is not dancing on the pew and quiet, I am happy). On the physical side, he can kick the whole 25 m pool on a kickboard and jump in the deep end. And (on occasion) there is a roast beef dinner once in awhile. Sundays are typically very good days. The priest in our church is a very sharp guy and is a very forward thinker (perhaps well suited for Antigonish, Bren). Not to the point of letting women say mass (which I don't have a problem with) but that those involved in sex scandals likely should have faced stronger prosecution sooner. Bottom line I don't think any religion is perfect but I think it helps set some guidelines and concepts that help make a better person. And it provides time to reflect which I don't think anyone has enough time to do anymore.

Scotch... religion.... Florida vacations..watery American beer... this month is looking OUTSTANDING on the old web archives! Someone start talking about hockey and I will plotz!

Other than that, the kids are with their grandparents in Sudbury for the week so this is get it done week (house clean, income tax, and general work stuff). Got a nasty 4 inch dump of snow last night but was on its way to being melted today.

Thoughts and Love

Jimmy, nice of you to think of bringing your antiquated toasting apparatus to the reunion but you may have some trouble getting that thang through customs.  You'll have every metal detector at the Dublin airport screaming like it was being murdered alive!  None of the officials will have a clue what the thing is, will assume it is some type of very sinister weapon, and you will be in deep doo-doo!

It has been a while since I have visited the Gill Net Lodge.

I was in the great state of Wisconsin from Sunday, March 5 to Wednesday, March 8.   I actually visited the big city of Manitowoc. (Why can't Wisconsin have normal names for towns?)  A fellow co-worker and myself embarked on a journey to install and set-up some equipement, and train users who will operate the machine.  Needless to say, everything went off without a hitch until the journey home Wednesday night.

First our flight was delayed over 40 minutes from Milwaukee, then due to the storm the power went out in the whole airport.  Then all travellers were evacuated from the concourses into the main area. Finally they couldn't re-fuel our plane due to the lightening!!  Three hours later we took off from the airport to travel through the storm over Lake Michigan.  The worst turbulance I have ever gone through.  Thank God for the complimentary drinks once the ride smoothed out.  I think being in a
50 seat plane didn't help. In any event we made it home safely.  Did you see the tornado??  Next time I'll have to take an afternoon to come and visit.  Where about in the 'Cheese' state do you live??

John, the Gill Net looks beautiful in blue again. I like the blue better cuz it's easier to read and I know you've been tending to the site. :-) Sounds like you had a hairy ordeal at O'Hare too! YIKES!!!

Message from Stephanie & George Kingston at redoak@nbnet.nb.ca:

The on-site chair person of the Samuel and Lillian Kingston reunion (Stephanie), who has been in Saint John, NB for the last two weeks waiting for her #5 child (her daughter Patricia Kathleen (Kingston) Boyle) to produce her # 5 child and a new grand child.  The moment arrived at 7:15am this day March 14, 2000 and Patricia and Dennis Boyle's daughter weighed in at 7lbs 4oz with black hair.  Patricia's has ravin black hair.  Dennis and Patricia's email address, although they seldom get near their computer with three previous son's and one daughter, is dennisb@nbnet.nb.ca

I have not kept close count but that must be near 190 descendants of Samuel amd Lillian.

Speaking of the reunion, Stephanie has rented a travel trailer that sleeps 8 from Aug 2 to Aug 8 to be on site of the reunion.  The new mother Patricia has rented another travel trailer which also sleeps 8 for the same time.  Martha Ann (Kingston) Brown living in Calgary has also rented an additional travel trailer that sleeps 8.  Samuel Kingston's son who is Stephanie's much better half (that's me) is to set up two tents that would sleep another 8.  And I George (that better half fella) will likely sleep in the back end of his little 1/4 ton truck which has a cap on the back.

Now the trailer screed above is to remind you if any of you would like to rent a travel trailer for the reunion, contact "RV WORLD @ phone no 1-506-458-9555.  The rental cost is $475.00 + 71.25 tax for a total of 546.25 Canadian $.  They require a deposit of $100.00.  You do this by giving them your credit card number.   Now these trailers if any more are available are in Fredericton, NB some 120 miles from the Reunion site.  They, RV World will deliver and pick up the trailers for the cost of
$100 each way.  For a grand total $746.25 canadian, for the week.  If 8 of you can get along that is a      total cost for the week of $93.28 or 13.33 per each person per night.  (If only you find 4 that can get along, that is only $26.66 Canadian dollars per person per night, and Canadian $ at that  - Chicken feed!)  If any of you would like to rent tell RV World to deliver to the same place - Brown's Boyles where other Kingston travel trailers are being delivered to at that time.

This is my first contribution to the 2000. We all owe that John Vickers a great deal for this Web page.  John a great big thank you and bring your guitar for the reunion and I know everyone around the campfire will enjoy the sing song about 10: pm.

(Your're very welcome George!...:) jv)

I am so glad to hear the baby has arrived.  And a GIRL!!! Yeah!  Christine must be tickled pink to have a baby sister.  I think this baby is #190.  Have they picked a name yet?

Regarding travel trailer rentals, there is another place on the Woodstock road in Fredericton -- I think it is called Doug's -- that rents tent trailers.  Ray & I rented one before we purchased our first one.  As I recall, the price was less than the competition at that time.

Ray is heading back from Virginia tonight.  I have really hated being a single parent. It has been especially bad as the girls were both sick.  Last night I went through a large bottle of Javex cleaning up the messes. ARGHHH!  I think after Ray talked to me last night he became a little scared about coming home.  In fact, this morning his secretary called me to say that he called the office to say he would be delayed in Virginia due to technical difficulties.  Hmmmmm, I think he just wants to retain his pseudo-bachelorhood for just a few more hours:).

Take Care all....ME

p.s. Brenda, I think you have the start of a great debate to be continued following a few drinks by the river during the reunion.  I think if my memory serves me right that Aunt Monica, Aunt Bernadette and my dear father would love to add their 2 cents :)

Hey John,

Would you re-post the website where one can download the software to hear all this audio?  I was gonna do it and it just slipped my mind.

St. Patty's Day is a big deal in Milwaukee (lots of Irish here).  Most of the bars open at 6AM, serving a big breakfast and green beer!  They are packed from the get go, so I am told.  The city bus lines offer free rides all day, until midnight, for all the drunken ejits.  It's a normal work day for me and I hope I don't see any fallout from all this rable rousing.  Here's to ya'll! \_/

Re the 14 grandchild of Stephanie & George, the 5 child of their daughter Patrica & Dennis Boyle.  Her name is Catherine Anne Patricis Boyle.  I think that would be accepted as Irish.  The mother Patrica is now at her home with Catherine Anne Boyle. Stephanie has been chief cook and bottle washer for over two weeks now which will probably end next week sometime, and she will have to revert to cooking for me.

Regarding Jimmy what ever his name is, I suspect some one in the East as the emails seem to arrive early in the day.  Would it be Brenda the newspaper Lady in Nova Scotia. This is my second contribution to the 2000.

If only two of you can get along the cost is about $50.00 per person per night.  With the dogs having lots of room to wander around the spread.

Hi Uncle George!

Catherine Ann...what a beautiful Irish name.  Have you seen her yet?  I bet you miss Stephanie!  What kind of concoctions are you cooking for yourself?  Mac and cheese?  Hot dogs?  Campbell's Soup? :-) For all I know you may be a thorougly talented lad in the kitchen and are feasting on all sorts of culinary wonders.

So you REEEAALLLY aren't "Jimmy"?  Hmmm...back to the drawing board on that one.  I don't think it's Brenda...does not sound anything like my one and only senior cousin.  Do you think it might be your illustrious son Tommy?  We have not heard from him in the Gill Net in ages!  He used to always try to beat me to be the first person to leave a message at the start of each month but I have been competeing against thin air for quite awhile now.

As for accommodations at the reunion, I believe Dad reserved a block of rooms for us at a motel fairly close to the site when he was in N.B. last fall.  We're gonna get our airline tickets soon as it appears the rising gas prices are causing a rapid escallation in airfare prices as well.  We are starting to get REALLY excited about seeing everyone! :-D

ME, I hope your girls are feeling better and that the AWOL Ray in Virginia has returned safely to the nest.  After John and Robert's air travel nightmares I worry about my airborne relatives!  BTW, what is Javax...some kind of disenfectant?

John, thanks for the sound down-load info...I'm off to go get it now.

Yo John...

After visiting the Real Basic 7 site, I realized we already had this but for some reason it wasn't working.  Soooo...rather than start fiddling around and possibly blowing up the computer, I waited for the Jackmeister to get home and asked him.  It turns out we had the sound turned off in my Compuserve settings.  One little mouse click and we were bopping to the lively Brady Bunch theme song. :-)

I dunno about your idea to have one LONG Gill Net page that encompasses March through August. This sucker is gonna be HUGE! :-O

Mary W.

(You may well be right Mary.  By the way, those links for those theme's up above sure don't seem to work to well.  You can go the the site and listen to a huge selection by clicking here).

Spent the weekend travelling around the Island and visited this little hamlet called Chemanius.  To boost tourism, the mayor a few years ago employed all these painters to paint giant murals on the side of almost every building in town.  Soo neat! jv

Belive it or not, Ray & I were in Chemanius about 10 years ago with Rick & Norma MacLean.  I rememember going on a walking tour which ended up close to a mill and the logs were HUGE!  I think only 4 or 5 would fit on a trailer.  Dad's tongue would have hung out if he had seen them.  We loved Vancouver Island -- so did the hippies ( we saw a lot of them) as I recall....ME

(Neat Mary Ellen!  Hippies apparently migrated to many UpIsland places...the beads, the hair, the clothes, you can sure spot them.  I know what you mean by big logs!  I was telling Dad sometimes you see a big 18-wheeler going by and there are a total of THREE LOGS on board..there is one spot where you walk into the middle of the trunk of a standing tree and the inside area is the size of a dining room...:)jv

Jimmy, er ye coming all the way from Ireland by yerself or are ye bringin' some kin with ye?

As Gill Net Lodge administrator, I must testify that given another month or two, this page would probably take a couple of days just to download.  So, we'll return to monthly increments as before!

We had our first major crash at Gill Net Lodge, which, in case you hadn't noticed, was down for about 24-hours.  I ended up calling my service provider in California to find out the problem which is now rectified.  Sorry if you tuned in and we were off the air!

As for who the real Jimmy is, I must now admit that due to careful cybernet tracking, I have discovered just who the man is.  Upon confronting the masked individual, I find myself being sworn to secrecy for now....

Do you remember the poem my mother sang to us as children and I sang it to you children?

Little robin red breast sat upon a tree
Singing cherries were you made for me?
No said little Billy whom the robin heard
God did not make cherries for such a foolish bird

Then that little robin hung her pretty head
Feeling very badly before she went to bed
Come back little robin you may have a few
God made the cherries for Billy and robin too
Then that little robin sang that summer day
Thank you thank you Billy and then she flew away

There was another one my mother used to sing:

Good little Lucy tied up her hair and said on her
knees her evening prayer
She did not say to the sun good night
Though she saw him there in a ball of light

The rest I cannot remember - it would be nice if all these new mothers could sing it to the next generation.

God bless
Mom

Hi!

We are Piedmont and Tig, Mary Weissler's kitties.  Unbeknownst to our mom, after much observation, we have learned how to operate the computer and check out the Gill Net all the time!  We loved Aunt Monica's poem and wanted to add some verses of our own:

Little robin redbreast sat upon a tree.
Little does dear robin know that we are watching thee.
From our little window we salivate and drool.
Thinking of a robin fate that some might find quite cruel.

We gaze upon the crunchy wings and meaty little breast,
Trying hard to figure out how we could raid that nest.
We get frenetically excited when robin goes "tweet tweet",
Imagining the crackling sound of tasty robin feet.

But alas, we're pampered indoor cats so robin need not fear.
We're doomed to merely window watch the wild world oh so near.

Love,
Piedmont and Tig
