BENEFITS
OF EXTRAORDINARY
GOOD
MANNERS
Manners
is defined by Websters dictionary as "socially correct behavior".
In the realm of meeting someone in their home for the first time, good
manners are extremely important and are too often taken for granted by
those supposedly in the know.
Here's
a "do's and don'ts" manners checklist for the residential security sales
representative.
-
Do say
"please" and "pardon me" and "may I" and "excuse me".
-
If you
shake hands with a couple, do remember to shake the woman's hand first.
Never shake the hand of only one spouse as it may indicate to the other
that you have little regard for them.
-
If you
are walking through the home for your evaluation, do remember that when
going through doorways into various rooms, ladies go first.
-
Do carry
tissue with you.
-
Do remind
them of your name when you meet them, even if you have mentioned it already
over the telephone. Like you may often may forget theirs, they too
will forget yours.
-
Do remember
to always remove your shoes, even if the homeowners
indicate
it isn't necessary.
-
Do pay
as much attention as possible to what your prospects are saying.
-
Do remember
that eye contact is important. It is said that if you don't have
sincere, honest, clear, intelligent, friendly eyes, you can't be a great
sales person.
THE DON'TS
-
Don't
arrive late. The general rule of thumb is if you are going to be
more than ten minutes late - call to let them know.
-
Don't
park in the driveway. You may end up blocking someone and would also
want to avoid having to interrupt your presentation by having to move it
later.
-
Don't
touch or move anything belonging to the prospect without first asking for
permission.
-
Don't
interrupt anyone when they are speaking.
-
Don't
try to be a know it all. Remember they don't care how much you know
as much as how much you care!
